Business as
usual in the legislature today. Many of the bills Prevent Child
Abuse Wyoming is following have made it to second or third reading.
One that is attracting a lot of attention is the Castle Doctrine.
This bill states that you can’t be prosecuted for protecting your
home and family if someone enters and shows or intends to do you
harm. It passed the Committee of the Whole yesterday. So did the
Quality Child Care bill that we had been following. The week slows
down a bit now. Tomorrow Susan Thomas, the late Senator Craig
Thomas’ widow will announce plans for the Thomas Foundation to help
young people get a solid start. That will take place in the rotunda

All
of the bills that we are still following passed second reading
today. The preschool development funding, quality child care, castle
doctrine, clandestine labs, domestic violence counseling period, and
the penalties for domestic violence all passed second reading. Not
many bills are left for the third reading and it looks like the
legislature could convene early. Remember, the committees are still
looking for interim study ideas if you or your community needs
something addressed, now is the time to be heard. Write a letter to
your representative or call them and speak to them after session.
Most of the hard work is done after session ends. |
